Fonds/Collection, 2021_09

Chindow Sidhu’s father, Giana Singh Aulack, was born in Punjab, India and arrived in Canada in 1906. He settled in Vancouver and owned a couple of houses and two trucks. He was one of the people who delivered food and other essentials to the passengers of the Komagata Maru ship in 1914. During the Great Depression in the late 1920s, he went to India to marry Tante Kaur. When he returned, he was told that he had lost his houses and trucks due to the Great Depression, and he had to start all over again. It was only many years later that he realized his homes and trucks were illegally taken from him under false pretenses, but he was unable to recover them.
